Join Ronhild de Brito for this 3 module online course taking place on 10, 17 & 24 August 2020. This course is for individuals, professionals, facilitators and anyone with an interest in learning the tools to explore and understand the needs behind conflicts and how to communicate to bring them to peaceful resolution.

➤ What is NVC?

NVC is an approach to communication developed by conflict resolution specialist Marshall B Rosenberg.
It is based on the assumption that all human beings have capacity for compassion and empathy and that people only resort to violence or behaviour harmful to others when they do not recognise more effective strategies for meeting needs.

➤ Why do we need Embodied NVC?

We can find it hard to connect richly day by day, with people in our families and workplaces as well as with issues in the world such as climate crisis, racism and poverty. We can imagine that some needs can only be met at the expense of others. We need a sense of solid ground supporting and nurturing all of us, so we can:

● create care and compassion within ourselves
● recognise what steals our ease and where we get into irritation and frustration
● get in touch with what we really need and value and learn how to communicate it
● recognise when we find ourselves judging, blaming and criticising as our culture traditionally does
● learn to listen with compassion and empathy to others
● play with the quality of compassion with ourselves, that makes us more open and understanding about other people’s hard feelings and blamey expressions
● integrate our feelings, thoughts and words as heartfelt expressions and empathy

➤ Course Content

You will leave the course with an in depth understanding of NVC theory and practice and how to apply it to situations in your life. You will also receive a printable PDF certificate of attendance. As part of the learning process the course will also cover:

◦ Self-connection – Get in touch more clearly with the emotions inside us

◦ Feelings – Practise how to express what’s inside us and figure out what’s going on for the other person.

◦ Embodied Grounded Awareness and Presence – Bring our own nervous systems to a settled state, so then we’re ready and able to attend to our needs and have more space for other people.

◦ Needs – Get away from the game of “Who’s right” and good/bad or right/ wrong thinking by noticing our resourcefulness, creativity and gifts we’d love to be seen, that we can give and receive. We’ll embody giving, receiving, our inner warrior, self-care, enthusiasm and inspiration. We’ll notice our needs with embodiment and grow more used to sensing the world from everyone’s needs.

◦ Requests – Then we can make requests to help meet our needs, from a non-demanding energy, understanding that “No” means different needs being met.

◦ Attention and transformation – When we understand that our rough feelings come from our unmet needs and ALLOW them to be there, bring attention to them and not push them away, they can transform themselves into beacons pointing to what we really care about.

◦ Understand more about Empathy – practise listening with empathy so everyone feels heard.

NVC can get us underneath our anxiety, fear, vulnerability, anger, frustration, intolerance – and in the gentleness of touching these feelings, are the strengths of acceptance, understanding, compassion and spaciousness. When we’re more spacious, we can allow things to be as they are and then change can grow from sensitivity and loving intentions.
